Should I Be Concerned About Falling Asleep While Floating?

You’ve finally found some time and space to relax….you’re trying Float Therapy! You enter the float pod and take a few deep breaths in and out and your tension from the day, your body, and mind start to drift away. You’re completely relaxed….but wait, what if I’m so relaxed I fall asleep?!

Don’t Worry! It's safe if you drift off to sleep while floating, and will likely be one of the best naps of your life! If you do fall asleep, once the session ends, the exit message that automatically comes on at the end of your float will gently rouse you from your slumber.

Float pods are filled with 1,000 lbs. of Epsom salt making the buoyancy of the float solution so dense that you stay afloat effortlessly. So if you drift off to sleep it’s impossible to sink down into the float water. In fact, you don’t even need to know how to swim to enjoy all the benefits of Float Therapy.

Because of this buoyancy it is very difficult to turn over during your float so, the fear of turning over in the water is unfounded. If you did happen to roll your head to one side while floating, the discomfort of getting saltwater in your mouth or eyes will definitely wake you up!

While floating, the break from constant stimulation in the outside world finds you in a state of total relaxation, so you may very well fall asleep during your float. Floating causes your brain to operate at lower frequencies such as Alpha, Theta, and Delta brainwaves. We still have a lot to discover about different states of consciousness while floating, but one key element is that these lower frequency brain waves are commonly linked to meditation and moments between conscious, alertness, and unconscious sleep. It can even be difficult to distinguish whether you’re awake or asleep during your float - how cool is that!? Ready to schedule your float? Book a session here.
